Student Wellbeing – The Resilience Project
At Ascot Vale West Primary School, student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. As part of our commitment to supporting the whole child, we are proud to partner with The Resilience Project, an evidence-based program that builds positive mental health and resilience across our school community.
Grounded in the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM), alongside the development of Emotional Literacy, this program equips students with practical strategies to navigate challenges, build strong relationships and develop lifelong wellbeing habits.
Our whole-school approach ensures that wellbeing is not taught in isolation. Students engage in regular, explicit lessons while also embedding these practices into everyday classroom routines and interactions. This consistent approach helps create a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.
We know that strong partnerships between school and home are essential. Families are supported with resources and strategies to reinforce these wellbeing practices beyond the classroom, helping to build a shared language around mental health and resilience.
Independent evaluations have shown that students participating in The Resilience Project demonstrate measurable improvements in emotional wellbeing and behaviour, highlighting the powerful impact of this program.
At AVWPS, we are committed to nurturing not only successful learners, but confident, resilient and emotionally intelligent young people.
